That which you are, that only you can read
Relief prints on gampi paper over wood frame, 121 x 128 in 2000
The title of this work comes from a Harold Bloom quote and refers to his thesis that comprehension of written text is determined by previous experience. I wanted to create a gender free language of gestures that could be interpreted on an individual basis- so the printed images are derived from ink blots, a gesture of pouring and folding. Like Rorschach blots, they invite non-logical recognition. The piece was lit from behind, and gave only trace glimpses of its patterned narrative contained within the arc.
